Mpeg21Spec

I had been hearing for a while that MPEG-21 could be a viable alternative to the MetsSpec for packaging digital content in the library world. Using MPEG-21 DIDL to Represent Complex Digital Objects in the Los Alamos National Laboratory Digital Library confirms not only the theory but practice of using MPEG-21. Will there be a split in the relatively small digital library community between the MetsSpec and MPEG-21?
