LionShare got a grant from the AndrewMellonFoundation:

LionShare is an attempt to bring P2P file sharing to an academic environment, specifically Pennsylvania State University. LionShare is an academic P2P system which will assist in the distribution of academic materials through the university's network and beyond. The primary goal of LionShare is to provide a means for collaboration among faculty, students, departments, and eventually multiple universities.
LionShare is a subproject of Penn State's Visual Image User Study (VIUS). The Andrew W. Mellon foundation awarded Penn State University Libraries a grant to support an extensive study of digital image delivery.

Is the LionShareProject an application and/or a platform? (It seems that LionShare is based on Limewire.)
