Gordon Rugg cracked the 400-year-old mystery of the Voynich manuscript. Next up: everything from Alzheimer's to the origins of the universe.
I found this really cool because it made me wonder about whether Rugg's techniques can get at the interoperability problems I'm wrestling with.
Also, I like to understand multidisciplinary techniques that focus on understanding the underlying conceptual structures around the disciplines -- hopefully obtained without having direct knowledge of the fields themselves. (I was trying to get at some of those ideas in my NexusOfNewtonAndNietzsche class.)
