Enhancing interoperability among digital libraries, software applications, and data formats of content has been a time-honored strategy for increasing the utility and useful of digital collections. Although full interoperability remains an unfulfilled goal of digital library research, there are many practical but rarely implemented measures that are key steps towards lowering barriers to digital library usability.
