Compound Document Formats (CDF). If we start creating CompoundDocuments with the ScholarsBox (or other tools), we will need to have the standards-based guidance coming from such groups as the CDF working group. I'm glad someone is one the case.

The Web has seen the creation of many document formats to address a specific need. Examples include XHTML for hypertext, SVG for graphics, SMIL for multimedia and XForms for forms.
Extensibility is an important aspect of the Web, yet it isn't always practical to extend the specific formats beyond their requirements. An alternative extensibility path is to combine the formats within a single document, with each format containing the data it describes best. At W3C, a document such as this, composed from different formats, is called a Compound Document.
