explicit exemption for police!
When I have seen the police bicycling on sidewalks, I have wondered what type of example they've been setting. Enforcing laws for everyone else, while themselves in the process of flaunting the laws. Now I know that the laws explcitly exempt the police. Hmm....

Could we live forever on this earth?
I really enjoyed Do You Want to Live Forever? because I was fascinated by how a brilliant outsider could synthesize vast bodies of interrelated facts to come up with startling (if unorthodox) theories about a profound topic as human aging and (im)mortality.

Yesterday's pictures
Another beautiful day in Berkeley. Windy though. The wind came and then died quickly. Walking to work was wonderful. Plants, color, warmth, a few surprises along the way. The picture-taking mania got a bit out of hand.

Pictures of Yao Choy
The other day, when Chris and I were lunching at Sun Hong Kong restaurant, I aked for yao choy to be added to my lunch dish. I was told that there was only bok choy. Chris wondered what yao choy actually looked like, to which I responded that I'd take pictures of some yao choy next time I'm at

The US at it again
Trade expert warns U.S. obsession with security threatens Canada's sovereignty:
"Let's embarrass the hell out of the Americans," by warning potential customers that the U.S. doesn't always treat even its close neighbour and favoured trading partner very well.
"They (America) want to expand their markets and other countries are going to be leery," if they hear of Canada's experiences, Jennings said.
